Lily May and the Ruby Shoes Blues was written as a reflection of all the students Danielle supported with self-confidence throughout her teaching career.
The unfortunate truth is, it isn't uncommon that primary students go to school with a low sense of self worth. Danielle made it her priority to initiate many confidence lunch bunch clubs over the years to support those who felt ostracized, incapable or unworthy. These groups became safe spaces within which students could express themselves, find similarities among themselves and celebrate their differences.
The spunky personalities, wild imaginations and incredible warmth which came from these groups of children, drove her to create the story of Lily May and the Ruby Shoes Blues, infused with themes of self-love, diversity & inclusivity.
